How to license famous artwork for selling online i.e any website links and resources?
Q. We want to sell famous artwork online for example: Andy Warhol/Roy Lichtenstein. How do you license their work for sell? Can I do my own reproduction of their work? Is this an infringement of copyright?

A. you will have to get copyright yourself for each work that you want to reproduce. so you will have to contact the artist or owner of the work and sign a contract with them which would detail the terms of copyright. who gets what percentage etc... unless you are a large publishing house i would think this would be totally infeasable. the only possibility would be in gaining a franchise with a publisher or publishers. as small art galleries sell prints of famous artists artwork. try asking your local galleries how they do it. if your buying prints through a catalogue your most likely already paying the copyright fee.

A. JPEG. Always if it is just a drawing, although PNG s work with pictures with transparency. Gif for animations.

What separates professional artwork from high school art?
Q. What makes someone stop and go, "that's a professional piece of artwork"? Most of the artwork that is produced in my art class (IB HLI) is decent enough that some students are able to sell their work. But it still looks like it was made in high school. Is it a matter of subject, medium, material, presentation? The only thing I've thought of so far is that professional art always has a small 1x3 card beneath the piece that has the name, date, size, etc. However, this seems trivial. There must be something else.

A. The more experienced an artist is, the greater level of expertise is apparent in the work. For some, this level has already been acheived by high school, but, for most, it comes only after many years of study and practice. One of the hardest lessons a student has to absorb is that growth cannot come to an artist that only works on what he already does well. Growth only comes when someone works very hard at improving at what they DON'T do well. The high schooler who impresses his classmates by doing nothing but Anime style images will never reach that status of having his work recognized by ANYONE outside the circles of Anime fans.
