Where is the vent hose to my dryer?
Q. My dryer has not been drying properly, as it takes hours and hours to even partially dry a load of laundry. The clothes get hot, but they remain very wet, and create a lot of humidity. I have stacked washing machine and dryer and they are both Kenmore. The machines where here when I moved in, but I don't believe they are that old (maybe 4 years). I have read other questions and believe I may just need to clean out the hose. Can anybody tell me where to find this hose? Does it run from the back of the dryer to the outside??(I live in a condo complex) And if it's in the back of the dryer, can I reach it from the inside of the dryer, or will I have to get the dryer down? . Do you have any other suggestions on repairing the problem?

A. It's on the back of the dryer and I've never seen one that you can get to from the front.. Just slide it out from the wall a little bit, enough that you can see it . It's probably silver in color. Make sure it's not kinked. You might have bumped it and didn't realize you did. Once your sure it's not kinked, dry a load of clothes. If they are still wet, then take the hose off and clean out the vent. To be honest with you , you should probably clean it out either way. But be careful you don't kink the hose when you slide it back.

Why is my gas dryer not getting hot enough to dry clothes?
Q. My gas dryer gets warm, but not hot enough to dry clothes in a single cycle. It takes a second or third time to get completely dry now. I have checked the exhaust vent outside and there seems to be plenty of air flowing out when the dryer is on. We clean the lint trap after every load. Is there some routing maintenane I can try to get it working normally again? It does seem to be getting warm so I am sure that something is just not working to it's fullest potential.

A. Certainly something is wrong and it is either your thermostat not calling for enough heat or your burner. I would pull off the front sheet metal below the door which almost certainly is held on by sheet metal screws point towards the floor. This will allow you to see the burner below the drum. You need to leave the door intact because of the safety switch or the dryer will not run and the drum rests on the door assembly. Activate the dryer and see if the flame once it ignites appears hearty and sizable or weak and discolored. It is entirely possible that the burner nozzle has become carboned up and a cleaning with a wire brush will help restore full gas flow. Failing this, I would lean towards the gas valves which are electro-magnetic [cont.]

Is it a good thing if a dryer doens't give out too much lint?
Q. I just purchased a used washer and dryer on Craig's List and they work really well. However, the dryer doesn't give out too much lint. I've never seen a dryer that doesn't give out a handful of lint before and our new dryer only gives off about a tablespoon of lint. Does this mean that the dryer is really good or really bad? The clothes seem to be dry after putting it on "more dry" with a big load. Does anyone have any ideas?
Asked by RJJHB - Thu Aug 30 21:26:41 2007 - - 3 Answers - 0 Comments

A. Better check to see how much lint is making its way into the ductwork or outside. And check to see if the llint basket fits tightly or if the screen is damaged. Clothes produce lint when drying... its going somewhere.

How can I make home dried fruit come out of the dryer tasting sweeter?
Q. I dry apples, pears, strawberries, kiwi, banannas, you name it in our Cabella food dryer. Up to now I have just sliced, soaked in citric acid (to prevent browning) and dried. It is good, but maybe a little sweeter would be better. Anyone out there dry fruit and soak or coat with something that will make the dried fruit taste sweeter? How should I do it?

A. i would sprinkle it with some raw sugar or organic sugar...it has that natural taste and isn't overpowering and i think it would be pretty on the fruit dried!! good luck! :)

Whats the difference between tumble dryer, vented tumble dryer and washer dryer?
Q. I am looking for dryer but i have come across these three option but i am not sure what they are? Does anyone know the difference between them. I basically need dryer to dry clothes after wash!

A. washer /dryer is a washing machine and dryer combined - they don't work very well. A vented dryer needs a hole in the wall and a connecting pipe for steam to escape. A condensing dryer does not.

Q. I remember hearing something about it but I didn't caught the name. I really think this dryer would be perfect because sometimes we don't know If the dryer has over dry the clothes I have a 7 month old daughter and I would hate her clothes to get damaged or faded due to over drying. Thanks! And If you are just going to tell to hang clothes instead of drying them let me tell you I will do it in summer but winter is coming.

How can I fix my dryer exhaust system?
Q. We've had a lot of rain recently and the extra water has flooded the exhuast pipe from my dryer. Now my dryer won't run, becuase it doesn't have good air flow. My dryer is under warranty but I'm not sure if the dryer manufacturer fixes stuff like this. Who would I call? Can I do this myself?

(How) can I dry a feather body pillow in a normal dryer?
Q. ...without f---ing up the dryer. It is very heavy! My dog peed on the pillow, which is actually more of a queen-sized mattress pillow. I washed it in the washer, but once I got it into the dryer no matter how I try to even it out it flops around in there and makes the dryer shake violently. The dryer is not mine, it is shared, and I want to make sure it won't mess up the mechanics of the dryer before I let it go on low heat. (The tag says I can, but now I cannot lift it, much less drag it to a laundromat-sized dryer.) Does anyone fix dryers or know about them? Thanks.

A. Yeah, you'd be better off finding out how to get it to a laundromat. However, here's how to wash & care for it: Follow the washing instructions found on the packaging of your pillow. Pillows that can be machine washed should be washed following these steps: Wash with a mild detergent on a gentle setting. After the wash cycle is complete, rinse the pillow(s) 2 additional times (to rid the pillow of any soap that may still be in the pillow. then spin the pillow two additional times to rid the pillow of excess water. I would let it sit in the washer for a couple hours and spin it again. Dry the pillow completely on a low heat setting. For construction pillows, you may need to dry the pillow for four to six hours. Between cycles, remove… [cont.]

Does dry cleaning disinfect your clothes the same way a dryer would?
Q. I know that when you wash your clothes and them place them in the dryer, the heat from the dryer (if set on high) will disinfect your clothes. However, does dry cleaning have the same effect? Will dry cleaning not only get my clothes clean, but disinfect them as well?
Asked by KBaylie - Thu Sep 11 07:09:56 2008 - - 2 Answers - 0 Comments

A. Yes; because dry cleaning is called dry cleaning because not wet with water ; Wet with water is wet; then if not wet with water must mean dry; that s where that comes from; Dry cleaners do not use air; to somehow magically clean your clothes; Its common misconception; dry in dry clean ; must mean air; its not; they use gasoline; or other similar type; So it will kill any bacteria or virus on the clothes; just as if you put some bacteria in alcohol it will die;

What to do when clothes dryer takes lengthy time to dry?
Q. my dryer used to dry huge loads in 45 minutes. now it takes a minimum of 2 & a half hours! its only 7 years old. the lint trap is clean, and the vent tubing is brand new and clear of debris. is there anything else i can check for before I call a repair man? thanks! to mom (swingin 60)- i have an electric dryer, remember?

A. ok - until you can afford a new dryer or a repair man--- get some dryer balls! they are available at bed Bath and Beyond- or if you don't have that store in your area- go buy some new tennis balls- put them in the dryer- up to four at a time- but two is fine- they help rotate and fluff the clothing and dry clohing faster- they work i have used them for about three years now and can see the benefits- try it! i think you'll be hooked even when you get a new dryer or your old one fixed!

A. For the dryer, you can vacuum the vent that flows to the outside, besides everything else you are doing. Not sure how old your washer and dryer are, but it might be time to get some new ones. They don't last a long time like they used to!

what is the fan called in a dryer that blows the air out?
Q. i have a dryer at home that is not blowing any air out and is taking forever to dry things, and is kind of a waste of electricity. so i took the hose off the back and there is no air coming out of the dryer, so i tried taking it apart and cleaned it out and there was no clogs anywhere. since it says on the dryer not to operate with the panels off, i decided not to see if the fan works or not. plus something seems to be making a noise which sound like its coming from the area of the fan, so i figure it is the only thing i could think of that could be going wrong. if you have any advice of anything else this may be please tell me. P.S. there is nothing wrong with the heating element.

A. It sounds like the blower wheel is worn out where it goes onto the motor shaft. It is a fairly simple job to change it and if you had the unit apart to clean you probably know what you must do. It is a common problem and the part is not expensive.

how to stop clothes from shrinking in the dryer?
Q. The dryer in my apartment building's laundry room seems to like shrinking my clothes. It automatically has a timer for an hour, but if I wait for the whole time to be used up, my clothes are dry but they are also smaller. If I take them out 10-15 minutes ahead of time, they are wrinkled and damp so I have to hang them up somewhere to finish drying. Is there a trick to getting my clothes dry AND not shrunken?

A. Example: Consumption of a clothes dryer in one hour. (Dryer voltage)(Dryer Current) (240V)(24A) = 5.760 KW (KW consumption)(time used) (5.760 KW)(1hr) = 5.760 KWH (Kilowatt hour calculated)(cost per KWH) (5.760 KWH)($0.10/KWH) = $0.576

What is the quickest way to dry clothing without a tumble dryer?
Q. I wanted to wear a jumper to a show 2night, but my nephew dropped jam on it. I'll wash it now - but how can i make it dry for 6 tonight? without a tumble dryer?
Asked by Mitte Esterill - Wed Jun 25 07:01:14 2008 - - 14 Answers - 0 Comments

A. First of all, roll the jumper in a nice big, clean, dry towel and squeeze gently; depending on the thickness of the jumper you might want to do that two or three times (with separte towels). That will remove much of the water. Then lie it flat somewhere near an open door where a flow of air will pass through it. Leave it there for an hour or two and then periodically run a hair dryer over it for about five minutes at a time. Good luck!
