Can I use a top mounted faucet with granite counter tops and under mount sink?
Q. We purchased a Moen faucet to go with our current sink just 4 months ago. We will shortly be remodeling our entire kitchen, doing granite countertops and an undermount sink. Can we use our existing faucet with granite or do we have to buy a special faucet?
Asked by Danielle C - Sat Feb 23 22:06:47 2008 - - 2 Answers - 0 Comments
A. Yes, you can use that faucet. You may have issues with some faucets if you are going with 3cm granite. For ease of plumbing fixtures I always recommend 2cm.

what brand of metering faucet is the best?

A. I have found that Moen makes the best faucets of any type. They are also the most expensive, and are lifetime warranted. But are you meaning automatic shut offs?

How can I repair faucet holes in granite that are too close to the back splash?
Q. My fabricator put the faucet holes too close to the back splash and I am having a difficult time finding a faucet that will fit or does not hit the back splash. Can the holes be patched or do they have to be enlarged creating an egg shape? I would have to make sure the escutcheon would fit over the hole, any suggestions?
Asked by unknown - Sun Dec 27 23:13:15 2009 - - 3 Answers - 0 Comments
A. You simply have the fabricator make you a matching pc. of granite the required width and length to cover the old holes. Adhere them over the old holes and then re-drill the new holes in the correct location. Have him bevel the edges of the granite pc. to look good. Simple as that. Sounds to me like your fabricator used a thick back splash or did not consult you on placement of holes. I would say he should make this pc. of granite overlay and install it free since he messed up.

Shower faucet is stuck in on position. Shower is running full force. How do I get it to turn off?
Q. It started a few days ago. Faucet was slightly stuck on, dripping, then running. Today I took shower and it won't turn off. Running full force currently. Any input would be greatly appreciated.
Asked by Terri - Mon May 12 19:02:11 2008 - - 4 Answers - 0 Comments
A. I'm not sure if you mean it's physically stuck or just passing water like it was still fully on. I'm going to assume the latter. If the faucet has a separate tap for the hot and cold then it's usually just a valve washer (a rubber washer that hardens and cracks over time) that's failed. If so, you can turn the main water supply to your home to the off position unless you have shutoffs below the faucet itself (sometimes hidden behind chrome covers just below the faucet). I won't get into any details, but the particular valve for your faucet can then be removed and the washer can individually be replaced. If you have a single control for your faucet (which don't fail very often this way) it maybe simpler and cheaper to replace the whole… [cont.]

What does it mean when your water faucet chokes?
Q. I just moved into a new construction and it has a new water heater. When I turned on the hot water faucet to let the water pour just a little bit, it runs fine with a small steady stream. The second I turn the faucet more, the water will begin to pour sporadically like its choking and the faucet will shake. Are you suppose to break in a new water heater?
Asked by L C - Thu Mar 15 00:30:57 2007 - - 3 Answers - 0 Comments
A. No, you don't break in a heater. You most likely have air in the system. Unscrew the aerator and turn the water on full blast. The water should clear up in several seconds.

How do you stop the faucet from running on a tub shower combo when taking a shower?
Q. when you turn on the shower by pulling the button on the faucet, water continues to come out the faucet.

A. The spout with the handle needs to be replaced. That can be done with a large channel lock and wrap it with a old cloth and clamp it with that plier and turn counter-clock wise. It will come off...Than take the spout to ur local hardware store and match the same. If u have the type with a screw bolt under the spout...u need to remove that screw before u can take out spout.

How do you fix a bathroom faucet from dripping?
Q. The brand is Glacier Bay, the faucet is advertised as dripless, yet the hot water drips. I do not see where you can replace the washer or if I even have access to it without replqacing the whole faucet, Anyone ever have this problem? This is a 2-handle bathroom faucet, there are no screws on any part of the handles.
Asked by bluesters2000 - Fri May 11 21:09:40 2007 - - 4 Answers - 0 Comments
A. Turn off the water via a stopcock/handle under the sink. The faucet handle itself likely has a little plastic cap to it that says "Hot" or "H". You can pop this off easily with a fine-bladed flat screwdriver, butter knife or whatever. Take off the cover, and under it will be a screw that holds the handle on. Undo the screw to disassemble the faucet. Part of that assembly under the faucet handle should include a washer (nylon or rubber). Take the old washer or the whole faucet/stem assembly to your local hardware store and buy a new washer to match. Reassemble with new washer, replace the cap, and turn the water shutoff valve back on. It should now work fine.

How do you fix a leaking faucet?
Q. How do you repair or stop the leaking in a bathroom sink. It's droplets of water...every couple of seconds...leaving the sink constantly wet..and growing mold, if I don't clean it. Not to mention its a waste of water!! How do I repair the leaky faucet head. It's just a standard bathroom sink head faucet, with the 2 knobs attached on the side. It this an easy fix?? Help, please!! Thanks.
Asked by Lisa J. - Sun Jul 1 02:51:00 2007 - - 4 Answers - 0 Comments
A. you have to remove the handle in most case's you need a special tool looks like a deep socket this unscrews the valve from the valve body once you do this you may have to use WD-40 and let it soak a while but be sure to turn the water off under the sink once you are able to remove the valve with that tool there will be a small rubber seal or a O-ring most of the time held in place by a small screw replace it you may have to replace to larger O-ring around the valve itself if it has one most do just replace all the rubber seals and you should be fine

How can i add a sprayer to an existing bathroom faucet with only 2 water lines?
Q. I am installing a bathroom faucet but i want to have a sprayer. Is there any way to install an external faucet? I cannot use one the faucet with the built in spayer.
Asked by nicko - Sun May 20 23:35:20 2007 - - 3 Answers - 0 Comments
A. All faucets will only have 2 water lines. if you're looking to add a sprayer to the faucet similar to a hosed shower head, there is an adapter type sprayer that connects to the existing aerator coming out of the faucet that clamps down. Otherwise, it may be necessary to replace the aerator with an adapter that connects to a regular shower hose/sprayer so you can bathe animals/ children while controlling the flow and water with the bathroom(lavatory sink) faucet. To connect a sprayer like a kitchen faucet has could be done similarly, but with multiple piping reducers and would look quite odd.

Why does my kitchen faucet makes a constant high pitched noise when turned on?
Q. No other faucet in the house makes the noise. Also the noiase goes away when I activate the sprayer at the same time.
Asked by WILL W - Sun Nov 4 01:54:02 2007 - - 2 Answers - 0 Comments
A. It likely has some sediment (lime buildup) in it. If it is a older faucet it may be time to replace it. I bet it is a sprayer that is not built into the spout. That would explain why he noise goes away since the water is being redirected to a part that is not used as much.

A. The answer is usually no in most cases. However, if you were purchasing a Delta 2 handle tub shower type valve, Delta's valve has a union built into the valve on the hot and cold side with the option to use either a threaded or soldered connection. Single handled valves are usually of the soldered variety due to the fact that any future service only requires removing the cartridge from the front side. I hope this helps. regards, Indy

A. Yes!! If you can locate either a small faucet washer replacement kit or at least the correct size one for your faucet. Best way is to first shut off the supply to the shower faucet, then remove either the one that is leaking past the washer, or BOTH of them, take them to a plumbing supply store and ask if they can match them up, or at least carry the assortment kit then you can replace the worn out washer(s) and re-assemble the faucet(s). This should resolve this problem for you. Michael

When we turn on the faucet in our guest bathroom, dead sugar ants come flying out. What does this mean?
Q. We live in South Texas and use the faucet when we have company (maybe once a month). The dead ants are curled up and almost look dehydrated.
Asked by Drew - Fri Jan 25 23:03:28 2008 - - 3 Answers - 0 Comments
A. Your water system should be sealed all the way back to the source. I do not know if you get your water from a spring or a public water system but you to find out and address it. If you have a spring the ants are getting into it. If you are on a public water system you need to talk to your water supply facility. Tell them there must be a break in the pipes somewhere because ants are in the water. There are probably ants in all your water faucets sence all your water should be coming from the same source, the screens are keeping them from coming through.

How tricky is it to install a faucet in the kitchen sink?
Q. We have an old one we want to replace & I'm just wondering if it's something people do themselves or if you call a plumber... We already bought the new faucet.

A. Most replacement faucets will go back in,the way the old one came out, trouble is that sometimes corrosion sets in on the valves ,,make sure the water is off before you start and don't get in a hurry, you can do it
