How do I fix a bathroom sink faucet that screams when the water is running?
Q. My bathroom sink has a double faucet. The cold water faucet has no problem but when the hot water faucet is turned on it shrieks. This doesn't happen when you turn the faucet but rather when the water is running. Does anyone know how to fix this? Thanks for your help.

Can I use a top mounted faucet with granite counter tops and under mount sink?
Q. We purchased a Moen faucet to go with our current sink just 4 months ago. We will shortly be remodeling our entire kitchen, doing granite countertops and an undermount sink. Can we use our existing faucet with granite or do we have to buy a special faucet?
Asked by Danielle C - Sat Feb 23 22:06:47 2008 - - 2 Answers - 0 Comments
A. Yes, you can use that faucet. You may have issues with some faucets if you are going with 3cm granite. For ease of plumbing fixtures I always recommend 2cm.

I bought a faucet at Home Depot three years ago and need parts. Is there any contact info for Pegasus faucet?
Q. I keep looking online and the company doesn't seem to exist. Is this line of faucets made just for Home Depot by a larger faucet manufacturer? This kitchen faucet has a pull out sprayer and the rubber spray/stream button cover has turned into rubber crumbs.

A. I had no trouble finding information on Paegasus faucet's online. Finding parts may be more difficult. Not all faucets are made to be repaired these days. Good Luck.

What does it mean when your water faucet chokes?
Q. I just moved into a new construction and it has a new water heater. When I turned on the hot water faucet to let the water pour just a little bit, it runs fine with a small steady stream. The second I turn the faucet more, the water will begin to pour sporadically like its choking and the faucet will shake. Are you suppose to break in a new water heater?
Asked by L C - Thu Mar 15 00:30:57 2007 - - 3 Answers - 0 Comments
A. No, you don't break in a heater. You most likely have air in the system. Unscrew the aerator and turn the water on full blast. The water should clear up in several seconds.

How do you repair a leaky bathtub faucet?
Q. This is a standard faucet-everything I've seen is for repairing a leaky sink faucet (which I have done), but never a leaky bathtub faucet, and I have one that I need to repair.
Asked by kachow_now - Wed Apr 9 13:27:59 2008 - - 2 Answers - 0 Comments
A. Typically all modern tub/shower mixing valves are built around a removable cartridge. They need to be removed and replaced with new. It can be difficult and lead to other more taxing, more expensive problems. Best to call in a professional plumber who will remove old, flush out the system and install new. If the valve body is severly corroded then the entire unit will need replaced.

How do you fix a leaking faucet?
Q. How do you repair or stop the leaking in a bathroom sink. It's droplets of water...every couple of seconds...leaving the sink constantly wet..and growing mold, if I don't clean it. Not to mention its a waste of water!! How do I repair the leaky faucet head. It's just a standard bathroom sink head faucet, with the 2 knobs attached on the side. It this an easy fix?? Help, please!! Thanks.

A. you have to remove the handle in most case's you need a special tool looks like a deep socket this unscrews the valve from the valve body once you do this you may have to use WD-40 and let it soak a while but be sure to turn the water off under the sink once you are able to remove the valve with that tool there will be a small rubber seal or a O-ring most of the time held in place by a small screw replace it you may have to replace to larger O-ring around the valve itself if it has one most do just replace all the rubber seals and you should be fine

Is it possible to turn a faucet too tight and cause damage?
Q. I have a faucet that drips after I turn it off, so I find myself shutting it off really tight to prevent the dripping. Is it possible to cause serious damage to the faucet by doing this (i.e. the pipe to burst, the water to turn on, permanent damage?). I am clueless when it comes to home repairs!:) Thanks!
Asked by Kristina H - Sun Dec 23 19:27:02 2007 - - 5 Answers - 0 Comments
A. Yes, you can damage the faucet!! A simple fix for your problem would be to turn off both water valves under the sink, and remove the handles to your faucet. There is usually a phillip screw under the hot and cold symbol on the handle (depending on the style of the faucet), but if not, you'll find an allen screw. Once the handles are removed, remove the stems and replace the black rubber washer (about 15 cents). Put the faucet back together...if the problem persists, call a plumber to change the ceats (this is the metal part inside the faucet). I hope this helps!! It's easier than it sounds. :)

How can i add a sprayer to an existing bathroom faucet with only 2 water lines?
Q. I am installing a bathroom faucet but i want to have a sprayer. Is there any way to install an external faucet? I cannot use one the faucet with the built in spayer.
Asked by nicko - Sun May 20 23:35:20 2007 - - 3 Answers - 0 Comments
A. All faucets will only have 2 water lines. if you're looking to add a sprayer to the faucet similar to a hosed shower head, there is an adapter type sprayer that connects to the existing aerator coming out of the faucet that clamps down. Otherwise, it may be necessary to replace the aerator with an adapter that connects to a regular shower hose/sprayer so you can bathe animals/ children while controlling the flow and water with the bathroom(lavatory sink) faucet. To connect a sprayer like a kitchen faucet has could be done similarly, but with multiple piping reducers and would look quite odd.

How to fix bathtub faucet that cuts off water half-way through turning it on?
Q. When I turn on my bathtub faucet, it allows water to start flowing. Then when I get about half-way through the turn, water stops flowing, and then if I keep turning, water starts to flow again. Any ideas on what's causing this and how to fix it? I do still get hot and cold water, although the hot water is not as strong as it is in the other shower in the house.

Q. When you buy a shower faucet, does the union come attached to it? Wow, im talking about plumbing man. LOL.
Asked by Hello11 - Mon Jun 4 19:00:10 2007 - - 3 Answers - 0 Comments
A. The answer is usually no in most cases. However, if you were purchasing a Delta 2 handle tub shower type valve, Delta's valve has a union built into the valve on the hot and cold side with the option to use either a threaded or soldered connection. Single handled valves are usually of the soldered variety due to the fact that any future service only requires removing the cartridge from the front side. I hope this helps. regards, Indy

How to get a shower faucet to stop dripping without calling a plumber?
Q. Hello, My shower faucet is dripping and is there something that I can do to make it stop dripping without calling a plumber? The knob are turned as tight as I can get them but there is still a drip. It may seem like I am being petty but I am on a fixed budget and those drips turn into dollars. Plumber are very expensive and it may be something simple that I can do. Any suggestions would help. Thanks

A. Yes!! If you can locate either a small faucet washer replacement kit or at least the correct size one for your faucet. Best way is to first shut off the supply to the shower faucet, then remove either the one that is leaking past the washer, or BOTH of them, take them to a plumbing supply store and ask if they can match them up, or at least carry the assortment kit then you can replace the worn out washer(s) and re-assemble the faucet(s). This should resolve this problem for you. Michael

A. It was probably turned off indoors so that the water would not freeze and damage the pipe or faucet in the winter. You will need to find the valve on the inside pipe that feeds the outdoor faucet.

When we turn on the faucet in our guest bathroom, dead sugar ants come flying out. What does this mean?
Q. We live in South Texas and use the faucet when we have company (maybe once a month). The dead ants are curled up and almost look dehydrated.
Asked by Drew - Fri Jan 25 23:03:28 2008 - - 3 Answers - 0 Comments
A. Your water system should be sealed all the way back to the source. I do not know if you get your water from a spring or a public water system but you to find out and address it. If you have a spring the ants are getting into it. If you are on a public water system you need to talk to your water supply facility. Tell them there must be a break in the pipes somewhere because ants are in the water. There are probably ants in all your water faucets sence all your water should be coming from the same source, the screens are keeping them from coming through.

What you can also do if you are concerned about her getting enough water during the day is leave the faucet on,just enough for a drip of water to run down so that she can satisfy her trust until you get home good luck

My kitchen sink faucet is hard to move left to right. How can I clean or lubricate the faucet?
Q. I would like to clean or lubricate my kitchen sink faucet so that it can move left to right more easily. Do I have to take it apart to do this? What cleaning products or lubricants should be used? I rent the apartment so I can't get a new faucet. I would only like to clean or lubricate the faucet. Corky is on the right track. It's a single handled unit where the faucet part comes out with a hose attached, and you can switch between many small streams of water or one big stream. I forget the manufacturer but it is probably delta or moen.

A. Mr. sensible is correct. If this is a Delta or Peerless single arm unit, then there will be hex set screw on the underside of the handle. You'll have to turn off the water to the faucet to take it off as removing the piece below it will certainly give you more water than you want. Once you've loosened the set screw you should be able to twist, carefully, the handle till it starts coming up and off the shaft it's on. Then take the center hub, (cap), off by unscrewing it, probably with a pair of channel lock pliers or a strap wrench. If you use the channel locks, put a small towel or cloth around the top before applying any force, to minimize the scratching. Once you have this cap removed the center spigot should come off the post… [cont.]

A. I have a filter and I know that you twist it off by holding the filter with one hand while unscrewing the part on the faucet with the other. It is done in a counterclockwise motion. The "screw" is really a plastic cog. If perhaps it is on too tight spray some WD40 on it to loosen it. Good luck!

How do you stop a bathtub faucet from leaking?
Q. I know the obvious answer is to trun the faucet handles and turn the water off, but it still seems to leak via small drips even after I turn the handles really tight. I had the same problem with my sink and I had to turn off the cold water from underneath the sink completely.
Asked by radioactive_babywipes - Mon Jul 2 17:04:54 2007 - - 2 Answers - 0 Comments
A. You must shut of the supply water to the faucet , then take the faucet out. At the bottom there is a washer held in with a screw ,replace this. They come in various sizes. You can buy a box of different washers for about $3.00. Pick the size that fits into the grove then but the screw back on snuggly.

A. You must shut of the supply water to the faucet , then take the faucet out. At the bottom there is a washer held in with a screw ,replace this. They come in various sizes. You can buy a box of different washers for about $3.00. Pick the size that fits into the grove then but the screw back on snuggly.

How can I get my water faucet valves unstuck?
Q. I have to turn off the water under my kitchen sink, but the valves connecting to hot and cold are stuck. I can't get them to budge, and I don't own a wrench. (I am female, live alone (not that it should matter). Anyway, any help is greatly appreciated. I would like to try and fix this leaky faucet myself.:) Thanks, H8, but the valves under the sink are the problem. They are stuck, and I can't get them to turn to get the water off.

A. Get a can of WD40 (great stuff for such problems as yours) and borrow a wrench from a neighbor. Spray the stuck stuff, wait a few minutes and give it a go with the wrench. Remember that clockwise is tight and counterclockwise is loose. RIghty Tighty, Lefty Loosey

The nozzle broke off my pull out kitchen faucet. Do I have to buy new faucet?
Q. The spray nozzle snapped off of my kichen faucet. The retractable tubing/hose is in tact.; however, the small piece that connects the hose to the actual faucet/spray nozzle snapped. Can this small piece be relaced or do I have to buy a new faucet?

A. First get the name of the faucet manufacturer, and even better if you know the model. Then call the mfg to inquire about warrantees. If no luck there, call plumbing suppliers. You should be able to get a replacement for it, unless it's an off-the-wall brand. If it's a hand-held spray that pulls through the spout you'll probably want to get an exact replacement.
