New faucet whistles on regular setting, doesn't on spray setting?
Q. We bought a brand new Price Pfister kitchen faucet. Whenever we turn it on it makes a sort of whistling sound. However, when we switch over to the sprayer (sprayer is not separate) it stops.

A. too much water pressure will cause that noise.

A. First, unscrew the aerator from the end of the spout. Be sure to hold the screens in and flip it over and backflush it. While it is removed, see if the sound is still there. If so, there is probably a bad "O" ring in the cartridge. You can replace the whole cartridge cheaply. Just remember the position it was installed in when replacing. You can mark it with a felt tip marker for reference.

My kitchen faucet whistles?
Q. It works fine until the water heats up. Then there is a whistle. And sometimes if the water isnt turned on full power it will stop. Do I need a new faucet?

A. sounds like there is a loose washer in your faucet. loose washers will vibrate as water pressure passes through your faucet. you can either repair it by taking it apart and head down to lowes, home depot for repair parts or simply replace it. its a nmatter of budget and taste.best of luck

A. The washer needs to be changed, but make sure it is the flat kind instead of the tapered, since the latter tend the restrict the water flow and actually cause faucets to make noise.

whistling toilet?
Q. i've grown used to my toilet whistling for the past couple months. not sure why it does it but you can hear it fron anywhere in the house. if you turn a faucet on elsewhere, it will change the pitch. it facinates me. the only problems i'm having is recently i'll be taking a shower and then my toilet will just start running, causing the pressure to be lost in the shower as well as it turning scoulding hot (usually while i'm shampooing :( ) any ideas?
Asked by ekimollidrac - Mon Aug 28 17:28:05 2006 - - 12 Answers - 0 Comments

A. A couple of things. 1. The toilet is probably running because the rubber stopper known as the flapper is worn out and needs to be replaced. Simple job. Also sometimes the seat where the flapper seals the tank gets warn and may also need replaced. Little more difficult but not bad. If you end up going that far I found a different type of a flushing devise that actually works better than the standard flush valve. It's cone shaped and the cone seals against a large rubber washer. 2. I'm guessing this is an older house. Most newer homes have limiters on the water supply to prevent the scalding problem your talking about. All that it takes to fix that is a small brass washer with a very small hole to limit the water flow into the toilet. … [cont.]

Why is my water faucet so noisy?
Q. It isn't the actual faucet that makes the noise, but the water, it seems. It is hard to describe. When I turn the faucet on in my bathroom, the whole sink vibrates, and this loud noise that sounds like "grinding water", a tea-kettle whistling, a trash compactor... (stay with me here...) fills the room, so loud it actually hurts my ears. Is the water pressure to strong? (I am on the 24th floor in an apartment bldg). It is really irritating. How come the water doesn't simply flow out, without making any noise? It is so loud it wakes up my GF in the adjoining room! Anyway...did the apartment complex install cheap faucets? Water pressure too high? Thanks.

A. Actually it's caused by not enough air in the lines. It's water hammer, and commercial apartments are the worst. The contractor may have cut corners and not installed extra pipes teeing off vertically - which fill with air and cushion water pressure when the faucet is closed. It can be tracked down and corrected - good luck, tho. You may find moving an easier experience than moving your super to do something about it.

Why people wanna start unnecessary stuff?
Q. My aunt really annoys me. I try not to say anything to her, well have a conversation. It's like she's always starting up mess and being noisy. She'll complain if I leave a few drops of water on the sink and try to get in my business. She thinks that she's the judge of someone. To get back at her I complain about her actions, such as not flushing the toilet good, making the faucet sound like a bull or whistle, leaving dirty dishes on the table, and washing a small amount of clothes that won't fill a pan. She thinks that she's better and cleaner.

A. By getting back at her, you are going down to her level, Try and be the bigger person, A kind word turns away wrath and will drive her crazy. God Bless and good luck. I know this because I have an older sister like that.

Squealing shower?
Q. I just moved into my new house, and had replaced the shower head, as the old one was not working. The flow/pressure was very low - when the diverter on the faucet was pulled, most of the water still came out of the faucet, rather than the shower. So, I replaced the faucet with a brand new one with diverter. The shower now works great, but it makes a loud squealing/whistling noise. How can I fix this? There does seem to be a small gap between the new faucet and the shower wall; could that be the problem, and if so, how can I fix it?
Asked by Squeevil - Mon Jul 28 11:40:32 2008 - - 1 Answers - 0 Comments

A. I had a similar, intermittent problem at my old house. I found that once the noise started, if I pushed the diverter plunger down just slightly, it would stop the noise. A few drips of water or a small stream might come from the faucet after doing so, but not enough to affect the shower head pressure. Of course it's not a permanent solution, but on the rare occasion the noise occurred, this did the trick for me. I doubt the small gap between the faucet and shower wall has anything to do with it. However, it might be a good idea to seal that gap with some caulk so water doesn't enter your wall cavity.

Q. Is this a good beggining to the horror story im writing for english? thx so much The wind whistled slowly but surely in the frosty night. Like an easygoing, hushed cry. Spherical stones scattered across the pavement as if they were running from the leaves that fluttered to the asphalt and danced across the street. I glanced downward and looked into a creek, about five minutes away from my house. I gazed at the stream as the ripples extended throughout the water. Seeing this made special warmth come to my heart but inside I was worried, very worried. I kept trying to convince myself that nothing was wrong and that little feeling inside of worry was just my mind's eye like I usually inform myself after I watch a bloodcurdling film. Short Story- easy read takes 4 minutes to read, need opinions critique on language, grammar and impact?
Q. Pa became frustrated at the way his television buzzed, crackled and how the image just seemed to disappear. He decided to leave his rage for tomorrow; Sunday was a day to rest anyway. Pa turned to look at his young daughter across the hall. Oh, how she had grown from that undistinguishable, docile and almost alien-like creature that stared back at him on the first day she was born. He walked gingerly towards his daughter, pure- and soft in her features. He patted her flowing blonde hair that rested gently on her shoulders and stared reflectively at the light blue eyes that reminded him so painfully of Ma. Ma was no model, she was comely at best, but her eyes were always so pensive, thoughtful, and kind. Pa kissed his daughter tenderly… [cont.]

A. It seems really good, the only thing you could work on is maybe a few other openers, perhaps a prepositional started or clausal, it sounds really good, just a lot of the openers are just topic openers such as he or pa. Great story!

A. lots of description, but it needs a bit of tidying up, grammar is a bit untidy in places, and jars against the descriptive nature of the earlier section. like this bit: "A blazing flame heated my entire body in not even a half a second. " one sentence you are writing like a writer, the next you are talking like a teenager. Where does the heat come from? "The warmth brought back memories of sitting on prickly, warmed log in front of the campfire and backing away for the reason that your face became to warm" - messy. I think it's a good start but it just needs a bit of tidying up... words like "crying nonstop", "got", "tranquil looking", "shaking frantically" need to be rethought, substitute in some better words. The piece might work… [cont.]

umm.....ghosts? What?
Q. I do not believe in ghosts or spirits or whatever you like to call them. I do not believe that anything dead can still be seen. but there is no other explanation for this. It's late at night, and I'm staying with a friend at a MASSIVE house that I've never been in before. Apparently it's haunted, so us being teenagers decided to go walk around the house and some of the unfinished eerie rooms. We covered all the floors, almost every room... except for one of the rooms that has a locked door to. Anyway, when we went to cover the last story (which only has two bedrooms and one bathroom) all sorts of things started happening. The toilet started flushing over and over again, the shower turned, and both the sink faucets were turned on. The room… [cont.]
