What is the formula to produce windshield repair resin?
Q. Cynoacrylate and elastomers in what ratio
Asked by Glenn B - Fri Feb 9 06:54:21 2007 - - 1 Answers - 1 Comments

A. 50/50 is what the commercial repair kits use but cyanoacrylate injection alone works really well, with small bullseye type damage.

A. You may want to contact a Vita Spa dealer near you ( and try and get the repair covered under warranty. They have a lifetime warranty on the shel against loss of water dur to manufacturing defects. I the fiberglass has delaminated on its own then that would seem to indicate a manufacturing defect. If you are not the original purchaser then they may not honor the warranty, but that would be my first step to try. If you want to fix it yourself then you should be able to find fiberglass repair materials at a marine supply store like West Marine ( They have stores all over the US and Canada and can ship some of the materials.

A. polymer resin (fiberglass), will heat up and crack , because it's characteristics are oil based (plastic) they usually can take some heat , but it will dry up and crack. and needs a housing around any heat sources , to stop this , you will need some 1/2mm plate to cover the holes , either pop riviting the baffler , and welding the exaust , or covering holes with plate , pop riviting , and welding

I've just crashed my motorbike. How can I repair the fibreglass bits?
Q. The bike concerned is a ratty track bike with a race fairing (silly tumble on a wet Cadwell Park track). I'm not after a perfect finish, I'm just trying to keep the existing fairing in service for as long as possible. Damage is only slight, and has worn through the fairing in a couple of places, but not torn it or broken it. I've looked for hints on the internet, but all I can find seems to be high-tech stuff for structural pieces. What I need is an idiot's guide to a very basic fibreglass repair, starting with where I get the glass fibre, and the epoxy resin (if indeed they are the right things to use), and finishing with how to achieve a half-decent finish on the repaired fairing, and what sort of paint to use on it. Hope someone can… [cont.]

A. Well you can get fibre glass sheets which are thin enough to mould and cut to the shape of the fairing from halfords, it is made by Holts i believe, they make all the putty and resin stuff just for doing that kind of repair. Basically you cut it to shape then pour the resin in a bowl a little at a time add the hardenerstir then coat the fibreglass with the mixture (wear glove and do this in the open or you will be high as a kite on the fumes,) it is as if you are doing papier mache but if you do this in layers untill you are happy with the strength of it ( making sure you let it dry properly on a hot day 1 and a half hours maybe 2 hrs to go proper hard then sand it a little and paint, heres is a tip make sure you reinforce where the holes… [cont.]

How to repair a little hole in window?
Q. I shot a BB gun at neighbour's window and it put a little clean hole in it. It didn't crack it at all. They want it to be replaced. It's a really small hole about 5mm around. Can I just put some clear resin in there? Thanks
Asked by mot-oh - Tue Jul 7 08:00:15 2009 - - 3 Answers - 0 Comments

A. Yeah, actually you can. I have drilled holes in glass to relieve the pressure built up at altitude when the insulated glass is bulging and about to break. It is the same stuff they use to fill cracks in windshields. I made a much smaller hole than a BB would make, however.

Does your child have crowns to repair bottle mouth tooth decay or nursing bottle syndrome? How do they look?
Q. My 3 year old has to have over $4000 worth of dental work next week. She will have all 8 of her front teeth capped with prefab stainless steel crowns with resin windows. I wanted to know how these caps look when they are in place. They are white (tooth colored) on the front and silver on the back. Is the silver visible? Can you provide any photos to me?
Asked by Erin W - Tue Dec 12 19:34:49 2006 - - 4 Answers - 0 Comments

A. Hi there. I was a pediatric dental assistant for years...used to do these procedures for little ones everyday. You may see the silver depending on your child's arch. If the child is a thumb sucker or a tongue thruster the gate of the jaws is more open and the silver will be more visible. However, it's not so noticeable that your lil one will be ghastly to look at. I am assuming a pediatric dentist is performing the work for you at the hospital under anesthesia? The dentist I worked for would take even more time with the lil ones when we had them in a surgical op at the hospital. This way he would make sure that the lil ones had the perfect smile. Rest assured you are doing the best thing for your child and your pediatric dentist will… [cont.]

hardwood rot repair question?
Q. I have had a leak from the shower which obviously has either rotted or severely softened the wood under the tile. I was reading that there is a product called dr. rot that is an epoxy/resin type stuff that can streghthen the wood. Has anyone tried it or a similar product? I really cant afford to replace the wood right now.
Asked by shygirlxoxo - Sun Jul 1 22:58:27 2007 - - 2 Answers - 0 Comments

A. They have this same type of product at Lowe's. It is located in the "paint" department... and yes it does work. The wood has to be completely dry for it to work...and you will need to remove all the loose wood from the rotted area...a wire brush works well for this. it smells kinda bad for a bit...but it does work.

Need to repair bathroom sink. Are all liquid hardeners the same?
Q. I am trying to repair a crack on a sink in my bathroom. On EBay, I just bought a repair kit for fiberglass, porcelain, acrylic bath tub and sink. Unfortunately, the liquid hardener bottle is empty. The liquid has long gone because it is not tightly sealed. I am supposed to mix the paint and liquid hardener to finish application. My question is if I can use store bought liquid hardener instead, like Bondo liquid hardener sold in Advanced Autopart. Bondo polyester liquid hardener is used to mix with fiberglass resin to repair auto body. If not, can anyone know where to buy a small amount of liquid hardener to be mixed with paint? I have a leaking firbreglass water tank 14kl. How can I fix it without draining it i.e. in a wet environment?
Q. The leak is on the raised seam that runs around the perimeter of the circular tank at the half way point between the gound it sits on, and the top of the tank. Since it is full the water keeps coming - not at a lot of pressure more of a trickle. Will I be able to use a regular fibre glass repair kit with resin and matting?
Asked by ideascorp - Thu May 10 09:54:44 2007 - - 1 Answers - 0 Comments

A. I don't think that epoxy resin will adhere to a wet surface. If you partially drain the tank to the point where the drip stops, you could probably use a fiberglass repair kit after the tank has dried. If you can't drain the tank, you may be able to temporarily stop the leak using a product like Henry Wet Patch Roof Cement:

Asked by take a number - Sat Feb 23 03:49:11 2008 - - 2 Answers - 0 Comments

A. yeah, it's MEKP...same stuff in the clear tube that comes in a small automotive resin kit...remember 5 drops to an ounce of resin(polyester) or something like that? Anyway...as mentioned before...do a test batch. The more you use the faster your cure rate but too much will give you a brittle laminate. Go for it...good luck.
