Can I repair a Wood Hockey Stick blade with Surfboard Repair expoy resin?
Q. I've been playing some street hockey with some friends, and planning on playing a good amount this summer. I have a Easton Octane composite shaft with a replacible wood blade. I've played 2 games thus far and have scraped the fiberglass off the bottom of my blade. I know wood on pavement isn't the greatest Idea, but I hate using those plastic blades. I was wondering if putting a thin layer of surfboard ding repair (which is either a epoxy or fiberglass resin) along the bottom of the blade after each game would make it last longer? Granted I could just wear the blade out than replace it, but I hate it when the blade starts to split. Best answer get the points, Thanks I plan on re-applying the epoxy after each use..just looking… [cont.]

A. The epoxy will wear off the same way the woven glass sheet did originally. I guess you can keep applying the epoxy after each use, but you're just momentarily delaying the inevitable with that. The only answer to asphalt are the ABS blades you hate. Sorry.

Q. Cynoacrylate and elastomers in what ratio

A. 50/50 is what the commercial repair kits use but cyanoacrylate injection alone works really well, with small bullseye type damage.

Will repaired granite countertop last indefinitely? Or is it best to replace then repair?
Q. I'm having a new house built. Two weeks after granite countertops were installed, one of the workers cracked the surface. It's a quarter size chip right off the top of counter. The builder had it repaired with resin and polished. They want me to accept this in place rather than replace the whole piece. I don't know what to do ???

I've just crashed my motorbike. How can I repair the fibreglass bits?
Q. The bike concerned is a ratty track bike with a race fairing (silly tumble on a wet Cadwell Park track). I'm not after a perfect finish, I'm just trying to keep the existing fairing in service for as long as possible. Damage is only slight, and has worn through the fairing in a couple of places, but not torn it or broken it. I've looked for hints on the internet, but all I can find seems to be high-tech stuff for structural pieces. What I need is an idiot's guide to a very basic fibreglass repair, starting with where I get the glass fibre, and the epoxy resin (if indeed they are the right things to use), and finishing with how to achieve a half-decent finish on the repaired fairing, and what sort of paint to use on it. Hope someone can… [cont.]

A. Well you can get fibre glass sheets which are thin enough to mould and cut to the shape of the fairing from halfords, it is made by Holts i believe, they make all the putty and resin stuff just for doing that kind of repair. Basically you cut it to shape then pour the resin in a bowl a little at a time add the hardenerstir then coat the fibreglass with the mixture (wear glove and do this in the open or you will be high as a kite on the fumes,) it is as if you are doing papier mache but if you do this in layers untill you are happy with the strength of it ( making sure you let it dry properly on a hot day 1 and a half hours maybe 2 hrs to go proper hard then sand it a little and paint, heres is a tip make sure you reinforce where the holes… [cont.]

How to repair a ceramic tile without replacing it?
Q. I have a very very small hairline crack on my ceramic tiles, which are not deep, Is it possible to place silicone, or any epoxy (resin+hardener) into the slits to stop the cracks from spreading? Would it resolve the issue?
Asked by Lambada - Tue Aug 4 06:06:01 2009 - - 2 Answers - 0 Comments

A. No you cannot fix a tile with out replacing it .. Finding the cause of why it cracked is what needs to be done. If the cause isn t found, any repairs , either topical or replacement won t do a bit of good.. You can hide a hair line crack some times with a clear nail polish just to prevent dirt getting into the crack. Dirt getting in the glaze is what shows hair line cracks ..Using something to cover it is only temporary. Replacement and finding why it did it, is the only solution. Any questions you can e mail me through my avatar and check my qualifications there.. GL

Chipped front tooth how much for a repair job in London/or South America?
Q. Hello all I am from England but am currently traveling in Bolivia, South America. My tooth is only very slightly chipped on the edge (since Saturday), but of course that s where the nerve is and as a consequence the nerve is exposed to cold air (which is unpleasant). So what do I go for? This composite resin material seems really neat, but does anyone know: a)how long it will last b)how much it will cost? And now the big question WHERE do I get it done? I am aware that, even in 3rd world countries, one can find great dentists. But, if I want to get a resin-based repair to my tooth, will I really be able to find a dentist who can do that in this country (Bolivia)? I know it is a real long-shot expecting info on the Bolivan… [cont.]
Asked by The Ben - Mon Sep 18 21:08:03 2006 - - 3 Answers - 1 Comments

A. The best and most permanent solution is crowning the tooth because if you just build it up with resin it will just chip again. Here in the US it's about a 700 dollar job. But of course there is always a difference in price. As far as to where to get it done I'm not sure. I do know that we redo a lot of crowns that didn't work out from Mexico.

hardwood rot repair question?
Q. I have had a leak from the shower which obviously has either rotted or severely softened the wood under the tile. I was reading that there is a product called dr. rot that is an epoxy/resin type stuff that can streghthen the wood. Has anyone tried it or a similar product? I really cant afford to replace the wood right now.
Asked by shygirlxoxo - Sun Jul 1 22:58:27 2007 - - 2 Answers - 0 Comments

A. They have this same type of product at Lowe's. It is located in the "paint" department... and yes it does work. The wood has to be completely dry for it to work...and you will need to remove all the loose wood from the rotted area...a wire brush works well for this. it smells kinda bad for a bit...but it does work.

What are dangers of the residue from sanding hard fiberglass decks?
Q. Some outdoor decks here are made of fiberglass resin and matting with a gelcoat on top. When these crack, they are rough sanded and the residue flies everywhere. My neighbor is doing this repair and there is white "sawdust" type particles from it all over, including on my fruits, berries, herbs and my koi pond. And it can potentially be inhaled. This is different from fiberglass "wool", but what are the dangers here?

Is there a way to fix a hairline crack in my radiator?
Q. I have a hairline crack in my 99 Nissan Altima. It overheated, so I pulled over, filled the resevoir with water, and finally made it home. I put Bars leak in it, and it is still beading. Is there a way to have it professionally fixed? Perhaps some kind of resin? Should I have it towed? or should I drive to a close repair shop? Thanks so much!
Asked by 2ndchhapteracts - Sun Sep 16 21:10:10 2007 - - 10 Answers - 0 Comments

A. If yours is plastic like alot of them are then no it can not be fixed. My advice to just get a new one. So you can save yourself some time and money. As far as having it towed it depends. If it is not leaking that bad i would say no. But if it is leaking bad then i would say yes.
