How do you get scratches off your phone screen?
Q. Okay, so I have a Samsung G600 and I have noticed some scratches on its screen. The scratches aren't very deep but they are deeper than normal scratches and I would like my screen to be clean and scratch-free. I have heard rumours that toothpaste works but I would like to know how much do I use and how long I leave it on for. Any other suggestions on how I can fix my screen are appreciated.

A. Many portable electronic devices have coatings on them, such as anti-scratch and anti-glare. The best way to repair them is to fill in and build up the scratches, layer-by-layer; using a repair kit that addresses coated plastics. "Scratch Pro" should work for you Since coatings refract light differently (tint), results will be determined by the depth and width of the scratch and tint of the coating. I have listed a good source for a scratch filler and it protects against light abrasions/fuzzy marks. You might want to get a case after you clean it up. You can also do a search online using the plus symbol in front of fix and scratch and then add the item you want to fix. For example: +fix +scratch (item to be fixed). or +LCD +scratch +repair [cont.]

How to remove scratches on stainless steel kitchen sink?
Q. My brand new (4 months old) stainless steel kitchen sink is already getting scratched up. Just wondering if there's anything I can do to get the scratches out? I know it's not going to look perfect forever, but I didn't expect it to scratch so easily. I paid $260 for it and it's a Kohler

A. There are many stainless cleaner/polishes on the market. Try one. If the scratches are deep, they can be sanded and polished with a buffer. Same as on any metal.

How to fix laptop scratches with home materials?
Q. Hi, my Toshiba laptop's lid, for some freak reason has a scratch on it. Is it possible to fix fine scratches with home materials and if so what are they? I really feel uncomfortable with the scratch even though it's unnoticeable because I've only had this for 5 months and it still feels new.

A. Try rubbing against the direction of the scratch with a Jay-cloth with brasso brass cleaner on it. The fine particles in the brasso will remove a thin film of the plastic, leaving it shinier and scratch free. Don't worry, the brasso won't scratch your laptop more! You can find it in most DIY or Home Improvement stores.

A. With a terry cloth such as a towel buff it out with metal polish. . .Brasso or Silvo. Follow the instructions on the container and do not let it get in between the keys. You can buy the polish at any hardware store. . . .I have polished Plexiglas with it and once helped a friend polish the windshield of his Cessna airplane. Let me know if that helped you, good luck

How do you remove scratches from auto glass?
Q. There are scratches on the inside of my windshield caused by my nephew attempting to "help" me remove stickers. I suspect he used the rough side of a Scotch-Brite kitchen pad to remove the glue. The glue's gone, but what remains are some shallow scratches where he rubbed the pad to remove the glue and stickers. Any ideas, short of having the windshield replaced, as to how to buff the scratches out? I don't want to make the problem worse, as it is fairly innocuous as it is.

A. You'll probably get several answers here advising that you use a fine grit pumice. Don't do it, you'll end up with an area of frosted glass. An auto glass company can remove the scratch with damaging the window. They use a filler which does a good job, but you have to know how to use it.

How do I get scratches out of car paint work?
Q. I have a 56 plate Kia Sportage, finished in "Cherry - Black" matalic paint. I spent all afternoon washing it, but under all the mud & cow poop ( I live in the sticks ) it is completely covered in tiny hair line scratches, some down to the bare metal, but most small scuffs. Just like a physco cat has been practiseing tap dancing on it! They're everywhere, the roof, bonnet, doors... infact there's not 1 panel on the car that does NOT have a scratch! What can I do to get these scratches out? My husband says that "T-Cut" will do more harm than good! is he right? HELP! my poor car looks a mess! Will it need a respray?

Q. I have tiny hairline scratches all over my car as if the previous owner repeatedly washed or dried the car with a dirty rag and the dirt scratched the car. The scratches are very tiny and only visible when something is reflecting on the pain (lights or the sun). What can I do about these scratches? The only solutions that I've seen are abrasives that actually some of the paint, and I don't really want to do that. The car is a '99 Grand Prix GTP Sedan, red in color.

How do you take care of scratches on an engraved zippo lighter?
Q. My dad gave me his Zippo lighter from when he was in the Air Force (it has a short quote on one side and the Strategic Air Command crest on the other side). Over the years, though, it's gotten a little scratched up. What can I do to take care of the scratches already on it and what else can I do to prevent further scratching? The scratches aren't deep, but they are noticeable.
Asked by cardsfanbj - Fri Oct 31 09:19:02 2008 - - 2 Answers - 0 Comments

A. You could try jeweler's rouge, which is a very, very fine grain polish, to buff out the scratches. My husband bought his rouge at a car supply place, so try there. As for preventing scratches, I'm not sure how you'd do that except for coating the case in something scratch resistant and not jamming it in the same pocket at your keys and coins.

How do you get scratches out of leather furniture?
Q. i have a dark brown leather sofa, with superficial scratches. Anyone know of anything that works in getting rid of or covering up scratches?
Asked by sofaman - Sat Dec 30 02:03:08 2006 - - 2 Answers - 0 Comments

A. If your leather is an aniline style which scratches when you run your fingernail across it, then a good leather protector will get rid of these and also do your leather good. DO NOT use shoe polish on any type of leather as it will always come off on clothes and also contains waxes etc which will do your leather no good. If you have a pigmented/protected leather then the superficial scratches will need some colour matching for you to be able to blend them in. Make sure yo use one where the colour is matched for you as the DIY options will not do the job.

Is there a way to cover up or hide deep scratches on a leather sofa?
Q. I have a cat that likes to scratch my leather sofas with her claws. Obviously, the BEST solution is to have her declawed; however this is not an option. I have taken care of the scratching issue with the cat; however the scratches remain and are not pleasant to the eye. I have tried shoe polish to try to cover the scratches but am seeking a better solution. The next step is placing the couches on the curb. Thanks!

A. Okay, so your cat has scratched your sofa and she occasionally smells really bad? I admire your dedication to her. :-) But seriously. . . I recommend you visit this site: I've used their products before, and they work pretty well. The mixing of colors is kind of tricky, but otherwise, produces good results.

How much will it cost to buff out many light scratches off a car?
Q. my girlfriend's accord is covered with light scratches that can't be felt when you run your fingernail across the surface. they arent deep at all, but you can definitely notice them. the scratches are all over the car in small patches here and there. the damage was done using a kitchen soap sponge (rough side) seeing as the scratches are light, they should be able to be buffed out. where can i take her car to be serviced? and how much will it cost approximately??? im thinking that paying for buffing out scratches is cheaper than repainting the entire car.

A. Contact detailing shops in your area. if you get several estimates, you'll get a good price range. First, I would try waxing the car with a good cleaner wax, you may be able to remove the scratches by yourself. good luck.

Any suggestions for touching up scratches and flaking on an acid stained concrete floor?
Q. The developer used a lousy sealant that doesn't do squat to protect against scratches. I need to touch up the existing scratches and flaking in the acid stain before I put on a more resilient sealant. Any suggestions short of refinishing the whole floor?
Asked by Didgeridude - Tue Jan 8 16:05:57 2008 - - 1 Answers - 0 Comments

A. I hate to say this, but you're going to have to get up the original sealant before you put down a new one. The only finish I know that melts when another is put on top of it, besides shellac, is lacquer, and this floor isn't sealed with lacquer. Therefore, your new layer will only make what's called a "mechanical" bond with the old one--it'll grab it, but not mix with it. This means that it'll lay on top of, and hold onto, the original layer and adopt its poor adhesion problem as well. I don't know if you have any recourse with the developer...sounds like his sealer was bad, or the surface was poorly prepped.

How to remove scratches from an oak table?
Q. My friends and I were playing this game where we used some hardened plastic cups as instruments on this old table my mom has. After about 10 min, we noticed that some indentations and scratches were left on the table. This table is very special to my mom, and it is not a classic wooden kitchen table. It appears to be red oak, or something close to that. Any suggestions on how to remove/fix these?
Asked by William T - Sat Oct 4 14:41:05 2008 - - 1 Answers - 0 Comments

A. If they are just surface scratches, you can get a stain pen from any hardware store and rub that into it. They are usually sold in packages of 3 and you can mix the colors to get a match, or try to see if 1 matches out of the package. If it is a lacquered, or shiny finish, then you can reapply the finish on top if it. However, if you have actually scratched into the wood and made grooves, you will need a professional repair job. good luck!
